S&P 500, Nasdaq Futures Slip as Global Chip Sell-Off Deepens

U.S. stock futures fell before Tuesday's opening bell as a sell-off in South Korean memory chipmakers heightened concerns over AI-related financing, overshadowing lower oil prices and optimism surrounding corporate earnings, Grace O'Donnell reported for Yahoo Finance.

Nasdaq 100 futures fell nearly 1%, signaling further weakness in technology stocks, while S&P 500 futures slipped 0.1%.


In contrast, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose 0.6% as investors digested the latest round of quarterly earnings reports.


South Korea's Kospi Index tumbled more than 10% as investors sold shares of major memory chipmakers. SK Hynix dropped more than 14%, while Samsung Electronics declined over 13%.



The earnings calendar remained busy, with reports due from Visa, Boeing, Ford, and PayPal.


Coca-Cola raised its full-year outlook after reporting stronger-than-expected second-quarter earnings.


Oil prices continued to ease after the United States and Iran halted active fighting and President Donald Trump said diplomatic discussions were underway.

Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve began its two-day policy meeting on Tuesday.



Markets largely expected the central bank to keep interest rates unchanged, although uncertainty remained, with some investors still considering the possibility of another rate hike.
