Republican senators raise questions about a controversial Justice Department settlement involving President Donald Trump.

The report said the Justice Department announced the agreement in May following litigation involving the Internal Revenue Service. According to Semafor, five Republican senators have voiced reservations about the arrangement.

Sen. Bill Cassidy said, "No American should be above the law, not even the president, and maybe even particularly the president."

Sen. Lisa Murkowski described the agreement as "a hell of a sweet deal to the president, his family, and his business."

Sen. John Cornyn said he plans to withhold support for attorney general nominee Todd Blanche because Blanche reportedly signed provisions related to the settlement while serving in the Justice Department.

The report also said a federal judge has reopened the underlying case and that nearly three dozen former federal judges warned the agreement raises "profound questions."

According to the report, the settlement could save Trump more than $100 million.
