The US State Department later announced that it approved the possible sale of 246 missiles and related equipment to Kosovo for an estimated cost of $75 million.
The US State Department’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs stated, “This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security of the US by improving the security of a European partner, which is an important force for political and economic stability in Europe.”
A statement from Vučić’s office mentioned that US Ambassador Christopher Hill informed him that the US State Department will send Kosovo’s request to Congress, which reviews foreign arms sales.
Kosovo, a former Serbian province, declared independence in 2008. While the US and most Western nations recognize Kosovo’s statehood, Serbia, along with allies Russia and China, does not.
Serbia’s president emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in the region and affirmed that Serbia will continue to act responsibly and contribute to stability in the Balkans.
