The Philippine Stock Exchange, Inc. (PSE) has announced that the guidelines for short-selling transactions will take effect immediately upon securing approval from government regulators.

The bourse operator has stated that the "critical components" of securities borrowing and lending (SBL) have received clearance from regulators. Short selling can only be implemented once an SBL regulation is in place.
The PSE has also mentioned that it will make a separate announcement regarding the official launch date of the short-selling program. Short selling involves betting on the decline of a stock's price to make a profit.
It is permitted in other Asian countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
