Industry stakeholders unite in support of MERALCO's franchise renewal, emphasizing the power distributor's crucial role in economic stability and growth, each highlighting MERALCO's commitment to reliable service, innovation, and social responsibility.

Recent endorsements from prominent organizations underline the critical role MERALCO plays in providing reliable electricity and driving the nation’s economic growth.

This week, the Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) has strongly endorsed the renewal of MERALCO’s legislative franchise, highlighting the power distributor's pivotal role in maintaining stable electricity service amid recent supply challenges.

In a letter addressed to Congressman Gustavo Tambunting, Chairman of the House Committee on Legislative Franchises, FPI Chairman Jesus L. Arranza commended MERALCO for its efficient service and proactive measures in mitigating supply imbalances.

The renewal of MERALCO’s franchise, according to FPI, is crucial for the stability and competitiveness of Philippine industries.

“We urge the Committee to recognize MERALCO’s significant contribution to the manufacturing sector. By renewing its franchise, the Committee would ensure the stability needed to propel Philippine industries forward,” Arranza highlighted.

Support from OFW Sector

The Advocates and Keepers Organization of Overseas Filipino Workers (AKO-OFW) has also expressed vigorous support for MERALCO’s franchise renewal. The organization advocates for OFW employment in economic zones, which heavily depends on good power quality—a standard consistently met by MERALCO.

AKO-OFW Chairman Dr. Chie Umandap emphasized the distributor’s role in creating jobs and uplifting the lives of Filipino families.

Highlighting MERALCO’s commitment to providing stable electricity at reasonable rates, Umandap noted that reliable service providers are essential for economic development and improving the quality of life for families of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

“AKO-OFW’s strong support to MERALCO stems from recognizing the importance of reliable electricity service for the safety and comfort of families of OFWs. As a reliable service provider with a proven track record, we want MERALCO to continue providing service to the growing number of Filipino families,” Umandap added.

PEPOA's Endorsement

Adding to the growing chorus, the Private Electric Power Operators Association (PEPOA) officially endorsed MERALCO’s franchise renewal.

PEPOA President Ranulfo M. Ocampo highlighted MERALCO’s exemplary track record in delivering consistent and dependable electricity. Ocampo praised MERALCO’s innovative programs such as the Interruptible Load Program (ILP), Prepaid Electricity Service, and the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), which enhance customer choice and contribute to a greener energy landscape.

PEPOA emphasized that MERALCO's operational excellence, commitment to social responsibility, and swift disaster response efforts are indispensable for the nation’s power sector.

MAP's Strong Backing

The Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) has decisively backed MERALCO’s franchise renewal, emphasizing the company’s role in the energy landscape and nation-building.

MAP President and former Executive Secretary Rene D. Almendras and MAP Energy Committee Chair Ms. Ruth Y. Owen highlighted MERALCO’s contributions to economic stability and its alignment with renewable energy goals.

MERALCO’s customer empowerment initiatives and operational efficiency were lauded, alongside its social responsibility programs, which provide significant discounts for the poorest customers and nearly achieve 100% electrification within its franchise area.
