The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled against President Donald Trump's effort to end birthright citizenship for children born in the United States to undocumented immigrants, Justin Akers Chacón reported for Truthout.

The US Supreme Court reaffirmed constitutional protections for birthright citizenship in a landmark ruling.
The US Supreme Court reaffirmed constitutional protections for birthright citizenship in a landmark ruling.

In a 6-3 decision, the Court held that birthright citizenship is guaranteed under the Citizenship Clause of the 14th Amendment.

The article notes that previous Supreme Court decisions have also affirmed constitutional protections for noncitizens and their children, including United States v. Wong Kim Ark, which recognized citizenship for US-born children of noncitizen parents, and Plyler v. Doe, which held that undocumented children are entitled to equal access to public education.

The author argues that legal and political disputes over immigration policy are likely to continue despite the Court's ruling.
