Staffers in the congressional and campaign offices of Eric Swalwell issued an unsigned statement expressing support for women who have come forward with allegations against the California lawmaker, a day after several top advisers abandoned his campaign.

The report was first published by Politico by journalist Dustin Gardiner.
“We stand with our former colleague, and the other women who have come forward,” the statement read.
“Any decision of staff members to remain in their roles in the interim should not be viewed as support for Eric Swalwell. The behavior detailed in these reports is abhorrent, beneath the dignity of those serving in public office, and betrays the trust of all Californians.”
Swalwell denied the allegations in a videoy, calling them “absolutely false,” while apologizing to his wife for unspecified past “mistakes.”
Prominent Democrats, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, as well as California Senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla, have called on Swalwell to withdraw from the gubernatorial race.
Labor groups also moved to distance themselves.
The California Labor Federation voted unanimously to withdraw its endorsement, while Lorena Gonzalez said the group’s duty is to workers, not politicians. SEIU California similarly rescinded support and urged Swalwell to end his campaign.
