The Swiss executive branch, the Federal Council, held an extraordinary meeting after President Karin Keller-Sutter and other top Swiss officials returned from a hastily arranged trip to Washington, Jamey Keaten reported for the Associated Press (AP).

The trip apparently produced few results in the effort to stop the steep 39% U.S. tariffs on Swiss goods. Swiss leaders have strongly criticized the higher tariffs, imposed despite Switzerland investing billions of euros in companies operating in the U.S.

On her X account, Keller-Sutter posted photos from meetings with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio — during which her team discussed tariffs and other issues — as well as with American and Swiss business leaders.

She made no reference to any deal to lower the U.S. tariffs on Swiss products, which are among the highest imposed on any country by the Trump administration.
