Texas Republican Rep. Michael McCaul has announced that he will not seek re-election in 2026, Nicholas Kerr reported for ABC News.

McCaul, a former chairman of the Homeland Security and Foreign Affairs committees, joins two other House Republicans who have announced their retirements this year: fellow Texan Rep. Morgan Luttrell and Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska.
First elected in 2004, McCaul is serving his 11th term. He told This Week co-anchor Martha Raddatz that he was “looking for a new challenge.”
Reporting for the Associated Press (AP), Nicholas Riccardi noted McCaul’s warning that with Russia’s escalation in Ukraine, “we got to be very careful not to be on the precipice of a World War III.”
McCaul made his comments as he discussed Russian drones entering Polish airspace, which prompted NATO jets to intercept and destroy them.
“We’ve never seen anything like this in recent times,” he said, adding that Trump is being played by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
