Voters in Texas have approved a ballot measure that enshrines parental rights in the state constitution.

Proposition 15 elevates parental rights — already recognized under state law — to the level of other fundamental rights, Mike Bebernes reported for Yahoo News.
The amendment affirms that parents have a “fundamental right to exercise care, custody, and control of the parent’s child, including the right to make decisions concerning the child’s upbringing.”
A separate measure also passed, adding language to the state constitution clarifying that only U.S. citizens can vote.
Texas already bars non-citizens from voting, but supporters of the amendment argued it was necessary to prevent future challenges to that restriction, as seen in a handful of other states.
