Voters in Texas have approved a ballot measure that enshrines parental rights in the state constitution.

Proposition 15 elevates parental rights—already recognized under state law—to the level of other fundamental rights, Mike Bebernes reported for Yahoo News.
The amendment affirms that parents have a “fundamental right to exercise care, custody, and control of the parent’s child, including the right to make decisions concerning the child’s upbringing.”
A separate measure also passed, adding language to the state constitution clarifying that only U.S. citizens can vote.
Texas already bars non-citizens from voting, but supporters of the amendment argued it was necessary to prevent future challenges to that restriction, as seen in a handful of other states.
