Trina Solar And PetroGreen Partner To Boost Philippine Solar Energy

Trina Solar, a global leader in smart photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage solutions, has announced a new partnership with PetroGreen Energy Corporation, a subsidiary of PetroEnergy Resources Corporation and a member of the Yuchengco Group of Companies.

Under a master supply agreement (MSA), Trina Solar will provide 117MW of high-performance PV solar modules to various projects in the Philippines, spearheaded by PetroGreen's subsidiary, Rizal Green Energy Corporation (RGEC).

The MSA represents a significant milestone in the effort to expand solar energy adoption in the Philippines, aligning with the government's target of 35% renewable energy by 2030.

Trina Solar's advanced solar technology and PetroGreen's experience in the Philippine renewable energy sector create a powerful synergy that can help drive the country toward a more sustainable energy future.

Trina Solar and PetroGreen's partnership began in 2015 and has already seen success with the delivery of 27MW of modules to PetroGreen's Dagohoy solar PV project on the island of Bohol.

This project, set to be the first large-scale solar farm on the island, is on track to be completed this year, aiming to reduce the province's dependence on fossil fuels.

Expanding on their previous successes, Trina Solar will supply modules to additional PetroGreen projects across the Philippines, including in the provinces of Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, and Isabela.

Collectively, these projects will use over 129,000 modules, generating an estimated 129.14GWh of energy annually—enough to power 53,800 Philippine homes each year based on average household consumption.

Todd Li, President of Trina Solar Asia Pacific, and Maria Victoria M. Olivar, PetroGreen's Vice President for Commercial Operations & Business Development, signed the MSA in Singapore, underscoring their commitment to a sustainable future powered by clean energy.

"We are delighted that this cooperation will significantly boost Philippine's energy transition to renewable energy through solar power projects and will contribute to achieving a low-carbon future," said Olivar.

The agreement also allows PetroGreen to explore a range of module types offered by Trina Solar, including industry-leading n-type iTOPCon Advanced cell technology and Vertex products for various applications such as utility and commercial and industrial (C&I) projects.

Elva Wang, Head of South-East Asia, Trina Solar Asia Pacific, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, adding that, "The Philippines boasts immense potential to harness solar energy to meet its rising energy demands. We are thrilled to partner with PetroGreen, a like-minded leader, to unlock this potential."

The MSA indicates that both parties are open to future collaborations beyond solar modules, such as solar tracker systems and battery energy storage systems (BESS), demonstrating their long-term commitment to innovation and comprehensive renewable energy solutions.

The partnership is not only a significant step toward achieving the Philippines' climate goals but also a clear message that Trina Solar and PetroGreen are ready to play key roles in driving the country's transition to renewable energy.

This new chapter in their collaboration could serve as a model for other partnerships looking to accelerate clean energy adoption across Southeast Asia and beyond.
