President Donald Trump has teased his pick to lead the U.S. central bank and hinted that it might be Kevin Hassett, the director of the White House National Economic Council, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

The president was speaking at a White House event about his “Trump Accounts” program for children, which they can access when they turn 18, celebrating private donations to those accounts spearheaded by billionaires Michael and Susan Dell.
Trump noted Hassett’s attendance at the event, calling him a “potential Fed chair” and “a respected person.”
Earlier, Trump indicated he had chosen a candidate to replace Jerome Powell as Federal Reserve chair. Powell’s term expires in May, and the president said he plans to announce his choice in early 2026.
