Trump Dismisses Growing Warnings About AI Risks

President Donald Trump has dismissed growing warnings from AI researchers and lawmakers about the potential dangers of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence, saying he believes the United States will be able to contain the technology's risks.

Asked about concerns that AI could eventually pose an existential threat to humanity, Trump said, “It's going to be fine,” adding that the US would “always have something to stop them.”

Trump later said he had no concerns about the rapid pace of AI development. Instead, he said his principal concern was ensuring that the United States remained ahead of China in artificial intelligence.

“No, I don't have any,” Trump said when asked whether he had concerns about the pace of AI progress. “I have concerns that if we don't win in AI, we're going to be put in a very bad position.”

His comments came amid increasingly prominent warnings from researchers at leading AI companies, including Anthropic, OpenAI and Google. Jacob Coxon, an Anthropic researcher who resigned, warned publicly that advanced AI could pose a severe threat to humanity.

Another Anthropic researcher, Evan Hubinger, has estimated that the probability of AI killing all humans within the next decade could exceed 10%.

Anthropic Chief Executive Dario Amodei has also called for a slower pace of frontier AI development and stronger safeguards. His proposal followed warnings from researchers about increasingly autonomous AI systems and potential loss of control.

The debate has increasingly moved into Washington.

Bipartisan lawmakers have called for new safeguards, while the Trump administration has also been weighing how to balance AI safety against the US effort to maintain technological leadership over China.

The White House faces pressure to address the potential risks without slowing the development of AI systems that officials view as strategically important.
