A video allegedly shows liberal filmmaker Michael Moore supporting former President Donald Trump in 2024, as reported by Melissa Goldin for the Associated Press (AP).
The video was edited to give the false impression that the documentarian is endorsing then-GOP candidate Trump. In a longer excerpt from the same monologue. I Photo: pangalactic gargle blaster Flickr
However, an AP assessment revealed that the Trump camp manipulated the video using Moore’s 2016 film “Michael Moore in TrumpLand.”
The video was edited to give the false impression that the documentarian is endorsing then-GOP candidate Trump. In a longer excerpt from the same monologue, Moore actually argues that people will regret voting for Trump when they realize he “wasn’t going to do a damn thing for them.”
Despite this, following Trump's purported record-setting win in the Iowa caucuses, the edited clip was circulated on social media to falsely claim that Moore recently expressed support for the frontrunner in the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
Moore's full statement, available on his YouTube channel, clarifies his stance: “So when the rightfully angry people of Ohio and Michigan and Pennsylvania and Wisconsin find out after a few months in office that President Trump wasn’t going to do a damn thing for them, it’ll be too late to do anything about it. But I get it, you wanted to send a message. You had righteous anger. And justifiable anger. Well, message sent. Goodnight America, you’ve just elected the last president of the United States.”
