The Trump administration has imposed 25% tariffs on selected imports from Brazil, marking the latest phase of its renewed global trade strategy, Ben Werschkul reported for Yahoo Finance.

The official notice was released recently, with the tariffs scheduled to take effect on July 22. Additional tariff measures affecting more than 80 countries are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The nearly 100-page list of exemptions includes products for which tariffs "could lead to the unavailability of domestic supply ... that could cause economy-wide disruptions."
Among the major exemptions are oil and gas, beef, coffee, and oranges.
The tariffs follow an investigation conducted under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer cited concerns involving Brazil's digital trade policies and market access for American businesses.
The move is the latest development in increasingly strained U.S.-Brazil trade relations.
President Donald Trump has previously threatened tariffs of up to 50%, while criticizing what he described as the political treatment of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who was convicted of plotting a coup after losing reelection.
Despite the new tariffs, the United States continues to maintain a trade surplus with Brazil.
