President Donald Trump is considering joining Israel’s multiday military campaign targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, several sources familiar with the matter told James LaPorta of CBS News.

One potential strike target is Fordo, a heavily fortified underground uranium enrichment site considered critical to Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

According to sources—including a senior intelligence official and a Department of Defense official—Fordo is buried nearly 300 feet beneath a mountain and is protected by dense air defenses.

It is widely believed to be the most likely location for a potential nuclear weapons "breakout" program.

Nuclear nonproliferation experts say Fordo plays a central role in Iran’s efforts to enrich uranium for weapons-grade use and expand its stockpile. However, there is no consensus among Trump’s top advisers on whether to proceed with U.S. involvement.

The issue was reportedly discussed in a national security meeting in the White House Situation Room. Attendees included Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe.

Following Israeli airstrikes early Friday morning, the government in Jerusalem claimed Iran is rapidly advancing toward nuclear weapons capability.

Earlier this year, however, a U.S. intelligence assessment concluded Iran is not currently building nuclear weapons—though mounting pressure may prompt a restart of its program.
