The Trump administration has revoked Harvard University’s certification to enroll international students, a dramatic escalation in its standoff with the Ivy League school, CNN reported.

“Harvard can no longer enroll foreign students and existing foreign students must transfer or lose their legal status,” the Department of Homeland Security announced.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem cited Harvard’s refusal to turn over student conduct records as the reason for terminating the university’s SEVP (Student and Exchange Visitor Program) certification.
The White House accused Harvard of fostering an “anti-American, anti-Semitic, pro-terrorist” campus climate and called international enrollment “a privilege, not a right.”
Harvard condemned the action as “unlawful” and warned that a forced removal of its international students—who make up more than 27% of its student body—would severely damage its academic integrity and global standing.
The decision impacts nearly 7,000 students and 9,970 individuals in Harvard’s broader international academic community. The university has pledged to fight the ban in court, arguing it infringes on academic freedom and violates constitutional protections.
