President Donald Trump’s approval rating has slumped to just 37%, according to the results of a new CNN poll — a second-term low and only one point away from his all-time low, CNN reported.

The numbers mark a precarious backdrop to the upcoming midterm cycle, with 63% voicing disapproval of the president and 72% of those polled saying the economy is in poor shape.
Meanwhile, 61% argue that Trump’s policies have worsened economic conditions. Eight in 10 respondents consider the government shutdown a crisis or a major problem, and 61% disapprove of Trump’s handling of it.
Democrats face challenges in the polls as well, but CNN’s analysis argued that, fundamentally, Trump’s unpopularity exceeds the unpopularity of Democrats.
On the generic congressional ballot, 47% of registered voters said they would back the Democrat in their district today, while 42% said they would support the Republican.
In a further look at voter intent, 41% said their vote would be meant to oppose Trump — nearly double the 21% who said their vote would send a message of support for the president.
Trump is underwater almost everywhere and sinking across demographic lines, according to the poll. The survey, conducted Oct. 27–30, included 1,245 adults, among them 954 registered voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
