Trump Scorned for Double Standard as He Lionizes Racist Charlie Kirk

Shortly after news of the shooting broke, Donald Trump posted on Truth Social: “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”

About 90 minutes later, he confirmed Kirk’s death, calling him “Great, and even Legendary,” HuffPost reported.

The outpouring of praise contrasted sharply with Trump’s muted response when Democratic Rep. Melissa [last name not given in draft] of Minnesota and her husband, Mark, were shot and killed in June by a gunman disguised as a police officer.

Their dog, Gilbert, was also mortally wounded. Vance Boelter was indicted in July on six charges, including stalking, murder, and firearms offenses—at least two of which carry the possibility of the death penalty.

According to CNN, the attack also seriously injured Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette.

The contrast drew sharp criticism online.

One person wrote: “The entire right wing is going to go absolutely ape shit over the assassination of Charlie Kirk. But just remember how none of them gave a shit about a Democratic lawmaker in Minnesota being assassinated just a couple months ago. Trump basically ignored it.”

Another added: “This is a good time to remind ourselves of the two Democratic Minnesota lawmakers who were shot just a few months ago. And Trump didn’t lower the flags for them or any school shooting.”

Others recalled how Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband were assassinated, and Sen. Mike Lee mocked their murders online, writing: “This is what happens when Marxists don’t get their way.”

One commenter summed up the double standard: “Where was this tribute when lawmaker Melissa Hortman was gunned down? Oh yeah, she was a Democrat. Kirk wasn’t even an elected official.”
