TRUMP SUPPORTERS ATTACK CONGRESS; CABINET MAY INVOKE 25TH AMENDMENT

Trump supporters attacked the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 (Thursday, January 7, 2021, in Manila), shattering windows and hunting senators and congressmen as Congress started a ceremonial canvassing of the Electoral College vote that President-elect Joe Biden won, 306-232.

A woman was shot and killed as the Trump zealots rampaged, occupying rooms and the offices of the Senate president and House speaker before federal agents drove them off using tear gas, Mary Clare Jalonick, Andrew Taylor, Lisa Mascaro and Calvin Woodward reported for the Associated Press (AP).

Before descending on the Capitol, Trump told his backers that he would go with them to the Capitol, but he didn’t. “If you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore,” he said.

“Let the weak ones get out,” he went on. “This is a time for strength.”

His lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, told the crowd, “Let’s have trial by combat.”

CNN reported that former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton tagged Donald Trump as the instigator of the mayhem and accused him of trying to rip the nation apart by dousing gasoline on the fire he had lit.

Democratic Sen. Cory Booker said the attack is only the second time in history that the Capitol was attacked, and in both cases the masterminds were malignant, authoritarian narcissists.

The impact was instant as three Trump officials quit, four Cabinet officials sought Trump’s ouster via the 25th Amendment, and several senators supporters backing Trump retreated from pushing his coup to overturn the election result, Reuters also reported.

Dozens of congressmen want him impeached for being a madman and a traitor to democracy.

House Speaker Nancy Perlosi said Trump will answer for his crime, while incoming Senate President Chuck Schumer stressed Trump must be prosecuted.
