A senior U.S. official told CBS News recently that President Donald Trump has not yet been presented with options to reduce U.S. military forces in Germany, CBS News reported.

While senior military leaders can provide such options if requested, none has been submitted so far, the official said.
The official added that Germany continues to quietly support U.S. operations in the Middle East, which remains a key consideration. So far, Spain is the only NATO member reported to have refused any role in supporting ongoing U.S. military operations in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, tensions have flared between Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who have exchanged public criticism this week.
Merz said that his relationship with Trump remains “as good as ever,” but expressed doubts “from the very beginning” about the war in Iran. “We are suffering considerably in Germany and in Europe from the consequences of, for example, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.
Trump responded on Tuesday via Truth Social, criticizing Merz: “The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, thinks it's OK for Iran to have a nuclear weapon. He doesn't know what he's talking about!”
