Longtime conservative commentator Tucker Carlson said on a podcast that "there's no chance I would support the Republican Party" ahead of the November midterm elections, distancing himself from the political party he defended for decades, including during his tenure as one of Fox News Channel's most prominent hosts, Jesse Bedayn reported for The Associated Press (AP).

"Not gonna support the Democratic Party," Carlson quickly added during an appearance on the podcast "Can't Be Censored." "I don't know what I'm going to do."
Carlson, who built a large audience through his independent media platform after departing Fox News in 2023, has increasingly diverged from Republican Party leadership.
According to the report, his dissatisfaction intensified following President Donald Trump's decision to go to war with Iran in February.
Carlson, who supported Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign, later said he regretted that support and apologized for having "misled people," adding that it had not been intentional.
He has repeatedly criticized the war, arguing that it primarily serves Israeli interests rather than those of Americans, and has accused Republican leaders of failing to represent their voters.
"They are making decisions on the basis of other criteria—what's best for this company, what's best for Israel, what's best for our donors," Carlson said.
"That's not just that they are off in the wrong direction. That is unacceptable, it's treasonous, it's immoral, it can't continue."
"I've been a consistent defender for 35 years of the Republican Party, a very consistent defender, but there's no defending this," he added. "So no, I'm out. And if I'm out, then I think a lot of other people are out."
