In addition to its festive fruit baskets, Edible Brands, which generated $500 million in sales last year, has launched an e-commerce site for Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) products, Danielle Chemtob reported for Forbes Daily.
Marijuana remains illegal at the federal level, but the company is focusing on THC products derived from less-potent hemp—though they can still produce a high.
“We’re already called ‘Edible,’ right?” Edible Brands CEO Somia Farid Silber told Forbes. “We know that sometimes there’s even a little bit of an expectation from a customer for [cannabis] products.”
The hemp industry is even larger than the marijuana industry: Hemp product sales reached $28 billion in 2023, compared to $26 billion for marijuana. THC is being marketed as a medicinal compound to help manage chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting and to stimulate appetite.
