Senator Tommy Tuberville finally ended his nearly yearlong blockade on military promotions, a move that earned him the tag of the "stupidest senator," Tori Otten reported for The New Republic.

Tuberville had blocked 450 military promotions since March as a one-man protest against the Defense Department’s policy of reimbursing travel costs for service members seeking an abortion out of state.
While he announced allowing most promotions to proceed, he maintained the demand for roll-call votes on the Senate floor for people nominated for four-star promotions.
In early November, the Senate brought 61 nominees to the floor for a vote, but Tuberville objected to all of them. His actions set off his fellow Republicans, who slammed Tuberville for insisting that his blockade is not harming military readiness.
Such actions drew criticism from fellow Republicans, with Senator Dan Sullivan stating, "How dumb can we be, man?"
