The US has lost 33,000 manufacturing jobs in 2025, including 12,000 in August, even as President Trump champions policies he says will revitalize the sector, Megan Cerullo reported for CBS News.

A new analysis from the Center for American Progress attributes the losses to Trump’s tariffs, immigration crackdown, and his July tax-and-spending package, which phases out renewable energy credits.
Durable goods makers — including car and electronics manufacturers — have borne the brunt.
Manufacturing employment has trended downward for decades, peaking at 19.5 million jobs in 1970 compared with 12.7 million today. CAP economists warned that tariff uncertainty is raising costs and discouraging investment.
