In a security alert posted on its website, the embassy stated: “Out of an abundance of caution, we recommend American citizens shelter in place until further notice.”
The message did not specify the reasons behind the advisory.
The alert comes amid mounting fears that Iran may retaliate against U.S. military bases in the region. Just last week, the embassy had issued a separate warning urging increased vigilance among U.S. nationals and embassy staff in Qatar.
