President Trump said that he may impose tariffs on countries that “don’t go along” with U.S. interests in Greenland.

He did not reveal any specific policy details, Grace O’Donnell reported for Yahoo Finance.
“I may put on a tariff on countries if they don’t go along with Greenland because we need Greenland for national security,” Trump said at a roundtable event on healthcare.
He did not provide details about what the tariff would entail and quickly moved on to other topics.
Trump’s comments follow tense talks between U.S. and Danish officials, as Denmark is responsible for Greenland’s defense.
Trump has renewed interest in taking control of Greenland following the U.S. strike on Venezuela that removed its leader, Nicolás Maduro.
Since the White House talks, NATO countries including Germany, France, Sweden, and Norway have committed to sending military personnel to Greenland for what they have described as a reconnaissance mission.
Denmark’s foreign minister has said Denmark and Greenland “still have a fundamental disagreement” with the U.S. about control of the island.
Greenland, which has a population of 56,000, strongly resists Trump’s attempted annexation, arguing its residents do not want to become Americans, citing the negative example of the former president.
