The latest US response to Iran's seven-day proposal may indicate that Washington is seeking to change the timing and sequence of measures intended to end the conflict, according to an analyst quoted by Al Jazeera.

Luciano Zaccara, an adjunct associate professor at Georgetown University in Qatar, said the disagreement may concern how the measures in the proposed agreement would be implemented rather than the issues to be discussed.

"I think both sides are trying to get out of this war, saving face at the same time," Zaccara told Al Jazeera.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi received the US response through Qatari mediators and presented it to Iran's leadership for consideration.

Reuters reported that the US response concerned Tehran's seven-day trust-building plan, which includes steps related to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming diplomatic negotiations.

Al Jazeera reported from Tehran that the details of the US response had not been publicly disclosed.

Zaccara said the proposal could take time to review because Iran's political decision-making involves multiple institutions, including the Supreme Leader, the Supreme National Security Council, the cabinet and the military establishment.

The latest discussions therefore remain preliminary, with both sides considering how the proposed measures could be sequenced and implemented.
