The United States has announced that it had revoked the visa of Colombian President Gustavo Petro after he publicly urged US soldiers to disobey President Donald Trump, further straining relations between Washington and Bogotá, Diego Mendoza and Todd Symons reported for CNN.

Petro, who has repeatedly clashed with the Trump administration on migration and drug trafficking, renewed his call for a global armed force to “free Palestine” while addressing pro-Palestine supporters outside the UN headquarters.
“It has to be bigger than that of the US. That’s why from here, from New York, I ask all the soldiers of the army of the US not to point their rifles at humanity,” Petro said in a video posted online.
“Disobey the orders of Trump. Obey the orders of humanity.”
The US State Department later posted on X: “Earlier today, Colombian President Gustavo Petro stood on a NYC street and urged US soldiers to disobey orders and incite violence. We will revoke Petro’s visa due to his reckless and incendiary actions.”
Petro responded that the decision “breaks all the norms of immunity on which the functioning of the UN and its General Assembly is based.”
He added: “The fact that the Palestinian Authority was not allowed entry and that my visa was revoked for asking the US and Israeli armies not to support a genocide … demonstrates that the US government no longer complies with international law.”
