The US Senate has passed a comprehensive foreign aid package, overcoming months of delay and providing crucial funding for various purposes, Patricia Zengerle and Richard Cowan reported for Reuters.

The package includes $95 billion in aid for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and US partners in the Indo-Pacific region, addressing a range of pressing global issues.

The Senate's approval, with a vote of 79 to 18, comes after the House of Representatives passed four bills on Saturday. House Republican leaders made a significant shift last week, allowing a vote on the aid package after prior delays.

The bills from the House were combined into a single package for consideration in the Senate.

The largest portion of the aid, totaling $61 billion, is earmarked for Ukraine, addressing urgent needs amid Russia's invasion and shortages of military supplies. Another $26 billion is allocated for Israel and humanitarian aid for civilians affected by conflicts worldwide.

Additionally, $8.12 billion is designated to counter China in the Indo-Pacific region.

A fourth bill included in the package addresses various issues, such as potential restrictions on the Chinese-controlled social media app TikTok, measures for the transfer of seized Russian assets to Ukraine, and new sanctions on Iran.

The passage of this aid package underscores the United States' commitment to addressing global challenges and supporting its allies in strategic regions.
