Uber to Cut 3,300 Jobs in Largest Layoff Since COVID-19 Pandemic

Uber will cut approximately 3,300 jobs, or about 10% of its workforce, in its largest round of layoffs since the COVID-19 pandemic, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced .

Khosrowshahi said the restructuring would make the ride-hailing giant "simpler and faster" by removing management layers, simplifying team structures and focusing employees and investments on the company's biggest opportunities.

Uber plans to use the savings to invest more in drivers, couriers, merchants and its "autonomous future."

Uber employs roughly 34,000 people globally in more than 70 countries. The cuts are expected to reduce its workforce to fewer than 30,000 employees.

The restructuring comes as Uber faces growing competition from autonomous-vehicle companies such as Waymo and other players in the delivery market.

The company has also been investing heavily in robotaxi partnerships as it prepares for a transportation market increasingly shaped by autonomous vehicles.

Khosrowshahi did not attribute the layoffs directly to artificial intelligence. Instead, he said Uber's rapid expansion had created organizational complexity that was slowing decision-making.
