Vietnam Intensifies Crackdown on Counterfeit Luxury Goods

Vietnam has intensified its crackdown on counterfeit luxury goods after police raided warehouses outside Ho Chi Minh City and seized more than 23,000 pairs of counterfeit slippers bearing the logos of brands including Nike, Adidas, Crocs, and Gucci, Gavin Butler, Thuong Le and Duc Ha reported for BBC News.

Vietnam has expanded its campaign against counterfeit luxury goods and trademark violations.

Authorities said the confiscated goods were worth approximately 2 billion Vietnamese dong.

Counterfeit products remain widely available in markets across Ho Chi Minh City, where imitation luxury handbags, clothing, footwear and watches are openly sold at a fraction of genuine retail prices.

Long regarded as a major source of counterfeit consumer goods, Vietnam launched a nationwide campaign on May 7 targeting intellectual property violations, including counterfeit merchandise, trademark infringement and online piracy.

The campaign comes amid increasing international pressure on Vietnam to strengthen enforcement of intellectual property laws and combat the production and sale of counterfeit products.
