The number of federal workers opting to resign has spiked to 65,000, according to a White House official, Associated Press (AP) reporter Chris Megerian reported.

The workers have reportedly enrolled in the deferred resignation program.

The official, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to disclose the latest figures, stated that these workers have enrolled in the deferred resignation program, which is currently being challenged in court.

A federal judge has scheduled a hearing to consider arguments on whether the plan can proceed.
