According to a New Jersey Lottery press release, the jackpot is the fifth-largest in the game’s history. The winning ticket was purchased on March 26 at a ShopRite supermarket in Neptune Township.
The ticket holder chose the cash option, receiving $537.5 million before taxes. As permitted by a 2020 law, the winner has opted to remain anonymous, valuing their privacy.
Lottery officials noted that winners often delay claiming their prize, as they have up to a year to do so. The state of New Jersey earned $77 million from ticket sales for this drawing, while the ShopRite that sold the winning ticket will receive a $30,000 bonus commission.
