World Awaits U.S. Supreme Court Decision on Trump Tariffs Case

What may be the biggest battle yet in Donald Trump’s trade war is about to begin.

The Trump administration heads to the U.S. Supreme Court (SC) to face off against small businesses and a coalition of states that contend most of the tariffs it has imposed are illegal and should be struck down, Natalie Sherman reported for Reuters.
If the Court agrees, Trump’s trade strategy would be upended — including the sweeping global tariffs he first announced in April.
The government could also be forced to refund billions of dollars collected through the tariffs, which are effectively taxes on imports.
The justices’ final ruling is expected only after months of deliberation and internal debate, culminating in a vote that will be closely watched by nations battered by Trump’s aggressive trade policies.
Trump has framed the fight in epic terms, warning that a loss would tie his hands in future trade negotiations and endanger national security.
On Sunday, the president said he would not attend the hearing in person to avoid becoming a distraction. His presence is not required, as he would not be the one arguing in court.
Trump previously warned that if he loses the case, the United States would be “weakened” and in a “financial mess” for years to come.
The stakes are equally high for businesses in the U.S. and abroad, many of which have borne the brunt of fast-changing tariff policies and their ripple effects across global supply chains.
