World-Class Mega Transport Hub To Rise On GSIS Lot In QC

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has announced the construction of a giant transport hub on its three-hectare property in Quezon City, which will rival the size of the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).

Dubbed "Project Hub," it will be located at the corner of Quezon City’s Elliptical Road and Commonwealth Avenue, GSIS revealed.

Wick Veloso, GSIS President and General Manager, highlighted, “Our property in Quezon City is centrally located and accessible, positioned in a location that maximizes connectivity with the city and surrounding regions.”

The hub is expected to enhance access to the neighboring Philcoa Station of the Metro Rail Transit-7 (MRT-7) when it begins operating from the North Triangle Common Station in North Edsa to San Jose del Monte in Bulacan by 2027.

“The ultimate aim of Project Hub is a world-class intermodal transport hub—a modern facility that streamlines the bus travel experience, focusing on efficiency, passenger comfort, and seamless connectivity with other transport modes, including the MRT-7,” Veloso stated.

He added that the project is expected to provide much-needed support to several major transport lines already serving the area.

GSIS disclosed that Veloso, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chair Romando Artes, and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte recently met to discuss the project.

With assistance from the World Bank, the DOTr will plan, finance, and implement the intermodal transport hub, while the MMDA will conduct a feasibility study covering traffic management and basic engineering design.

As the host city for the project, the Quezon City government will facilitate the permits and requirements needed for the smooth implementation of the project.

While DOTr-led studies and preparatory designs are ongoing, the GSIS, MMDA, and Quezon City government will provide temporary parking spaces for the public on the GSIS property, preparing approximately 300 temporary slots while the permanent development progresses.

Veloso stated, “The GSIS remains committed to serving our members and pensioners, ensuring that their needs are met with integrity and excellence, while delivering the best customer experience. Through the approval and guidance of the Board of Trustees, GSIS will continue to support Project Hub, a pivotal initiative aimed at better serving our members and advancing sustainability.”
