Biden Describes China Policy On Xinjiang As Akin To Holocaust

US President Joe Biden in a speech on Friday linked Beijing’s policies targeting the Uyghurs in China’s Xinjiang region to the horrors of the Holocaust more than seven decades ago, Jacob Fromer and Mark Magnier reported for the South China Morning Post (SCMP).

Biden warned against global silence and complicity as world leaders trample on individual human rights and noted that China has gone berserk in Xinjiang by exploiting Uyghurs in forced labor camps.

“Sadly, when we look around the world today, we cannot say that the specter of atrocity is behind us,” he said. “We see today the patterns, the choices, playing out around the world, even as we speak – the oppression and use of forced labor of the Uyghurs in Xinjiang.”

“The ability of the human mind to rationalize cannot be underestimated,” Biden said. Chinese President Xi Jinping insisted China was a democracy and said political systems should not all be judged by the same standard, adding China’s ‘democratic’ system is key to international success.
