Billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has significantly increased her donations to nonprofit organizations, announcing a total of $640 million in funding for 361 organizations.

This surpasses her initial pledge to give $1 million to 250 organizations through an "open call" for applications. Scott's organization, Yield Giving, has doubled its first round of donations in response to applications from nonprofits.

In a note on her website, Scott expressed gratitude to Lever for Change, the organization managing the "open call," and the evaluators for their role in supporting individuals working to improve access to foundational resources in their communities.

During the application process, 6,353 nonprofits applied for the $1 million grants. Among them, 279 organizations received top scores from an external review panel and were awarded $2 million each, while 82 organizations in a second tier received $1 million each.
