This investment, aimed at revitalizing the coffee-growing community and fostering the revival of specialty coffee, marks a significant milestone in Nespresso's ongoing efforts to support coffee farmers worldwide.

The initiative, part of Nespresso's Reviving Origins program, targets the lush region of Kivu, once renowned for its exceptional Arabica coffee.

Decades of political instability and economic challenges had cast a shadow over the region, leading to a decline in coffee production. However, Nespresso's investment injects hope into the community, paving the way for a brighter future.

Guillaume Le Cunff, CEO of Nespresso, expressed his optimism, stating, "Kivu has the potential to be among the world's great coffee regions."

Through partnerships with organizations such as the Eastern Congo Initiative (ECI)/ASILI, TechnoServe, USAID, and others, Nespresso aims to empower local farmers, restore agricultural practices, and revitalize the coffee sector.

One of the core pillars of Nespresso's investment is sustainability. The company's AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program, which has been instrumental in fostering sustainable practices worldwide, will play a crucial role in the DRC.

By implementing regenerative practices and promoting biodiversity, Nespresso aims to ensure the long-term viability of coffee farming in the region.

Gender equality is another key focus area for Nespresso. By providing training and support to women in coffee farming communities, Nespresso seeks to empower them and enhance productivity.

Initiatives such as gender equality training and increasing the participation of women agronomists underscore Nespresso's commitment to inclusive growth.

Furthermore, Nespresso's investment extends beyond coffee production to community development. Projects aimed at improving access to healthcare, clean water, and education are already underway.

Abraham Leno, Executive Director of ECI, highlighted the transformative impact of Nespresso's support, citing the establishment of health centers and water systems benefiting thousands of people.

"Since we started working together, we have built a large health center and an entire water system in the farming community of Minova.  Today, our medical team provides safe deliveries and gets hundreds of kids ready for school. More than 22,000 people from the local community have access to clean water, and as displacement soars, we are a primary source of water for thousands of families fleeing violence," stated Leno.

"With the continued support from Nespresso, we aim to continue this work, expanding dignified and sustainable access to clean water and healthcare," he concluded.

Nespresso's investment in the DRC not only revitalizes the coffee industry but also embodies its broader mission of social and environmental responsibility. By empowering local communities, promoting sustainability, and fostering economic growth, Nespresso sets a powerful example for the coffee industry and beyond.

As Nespresso continues its journey towards sustainability and positive impact, its investment in the heart of Africa serves as a testament to the transformative power of responsible business practices.

With its unwavering commitment to excellence and sustainability, Nespresso is not just brewing coffee—it's brewing change.
