During the recent Earth Hour observance from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. last Saturday (March 23), the Philippines successfully saved as much as 132.11 megawatts (MW) of energy.
Luzon contributed the most to energy savings with 73.86 MW, followed by Visayas with 53.3 MW, and Mindanao with 4.95 MW.
This significant energy conservation effort saw participation from various offices, establishments, and residences, which turned off non-essential lights and appliances.
The Department of Energy (DOE) reported that this year's energy savings more than doubled compared to the previous year's Earth Hour, with a total of 62.69 MW saved.
DOE Secretary Rafael Lotilla expressed satisfaction with the impact of electricity savings during Earth Hour, highlighting the dedication of the people towards safeguarding the planet.

The country's largest energy savings during Earth Hour were recorded in 2019, with total savings reaching 195.34 MW.
