For the second time, doctors have successfully transplanted a genetically modified pig heart into a living patient, as reported by United Press International (UPI).

Doctors at the University of Maryland School of Medicine announced on Friday that 58-year-old Lawrence Faucette underwent the procedure on Wednesday and is currently in recovery and able to communicate with others.
Officials stated that Faucette had been suffering from end-stage heart disease and had been deemed ineligible for a traditional transplant using a human heart due to his pre-existing peripheral vascular disease and complications related to internal bleeding.
Wednesday's surgery, much like the first successful transplant earlier this year, was performed by faculty members from the University of Maryland School of Medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
