76-YEAR-OLD MAN ITALIAN LIVES AFTER ‘FLYING’ 8 METERS FROM CAR

A 76-year-old man was unhurt after “sailing” off the road for eight meters into the undergrowth off the highway near Reggio Emilia.

Police said the man probably lost control of his vehicle after falling asleep at the wheel. The thick undergrowth prevented the car from falling into a steep ravine, they said.

Despite being in a state of shock, the man stayed conscious and called emergency services. Rescuers managed to get him out of the Mercedes B Class car by pulling him out via the boot.

Astonished rescuers said the elderly driver did not suffer a scratch, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.
