The Asian Development Bank (ADB) reaffirmed its commitment to deliver $14 billion by 2025 to combat food insecurity in Asia and the Pacific, stated ADB President Mr. Masatsugu Asakawa during the "Asia and the Pacific Food Security Forum 2024" in Manila.
The ADB's comprehensive plan, initiated in 2022, aims to transform agri-food systems and address the root causes of food insecurity.
Highlighting the severity of hunger in the region, Mr. Asakawa emphasized the urgent need for action, attributing the crisis to extreme weather events and geopolitical conflict. With $7.6 billion committed as of end-2023, the ADB remains on track to fulfill its funding commitment by the end of 2025. The focus extends beyond addressing malnutrition to transforming entire agri-food systems, prioritizing sustainability and prosperity for future generations.
