The event, which runs through Thursday, March 6, 2025, serves as both a smartphone showcase and a broader technology expo, Barron’s Daily reported.
Telecommunications giants such as AT&T and Verizon, along with global competitors, provide an ideal testing ground for AI agents—programs that can take simple instructions and execute complex tasks—due to their massive customer service operations and intricate networks that are ripe for automation.
Tech heavyweights Amazon, Microsoft, and Google parent Alphabet are all vying to convince telecom companies to adopt their public cloud infrastructure, using AI as a key selling point.
Microsoft secured the largest deal so far when it brought AT&T’s 5G mobile network onto its cloud in 2021.
However, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has since gained ground, winning a series of deals, including the migration of Comcast’s 5G network onto its cloud in December.
Software providers like Salesforce are making the case that the real value of AI lies in implementing agents for tasks ranging from customer service to data analysis. Meanwhile, Nvidia is promoting its hardware and software platforms as the optimal foundation for AI applications and agents.
Whoever makes the biggest splash at MWC could set the tone for the next stage of the AI race. Major deals announced at the event could help validate the billions of dollars being invested in AI data centers, shaping the industry’s future trajectory.
