Air New Zealand announced it will cancel about 1,100 flights over the next two months, citing the economic impact of the Middle East conflict, The Guardian reported.

Chief executive Nikhil Ravishankar said the cancellations—around 5% of the airline’s schedule—will affect roughly 44,000 passengers. Most of the affected routes are domestic flights within New Zealand, though some international flights will also be canceled.

Flights between New Zealand and the United States will remain unaffected due to strong demand for alternative travel routes to Europe.

“With the unprecedented volatility in jet fuel prices due to the conflict in the Middle East, airlines around the world are adjusting fares and schedules to manage the impact of these significantly higher costs,” Ravishankar said.
