If you haven't lost trust in the US Supreme Court (SC) when it was revealed that Clarence Thomas receives millions of dollars in luxury travel and gifts from a far-right Nazi memorabilia collector, the latest news about Justice Samuel Alito should make it clear that the SC is a deeply corrupt institution, Mark Frauenfelder wrote for CNN.

After Roe was overturned, Alito was rewarded with a lavish trip to Rome by Notre Dame's Religious Liberty Initiative (RLI) — which has advocated a ban on abortion in the US and has been active in filing amicus curiae ("friend-of-the-court") briefs in religious liberty cases before the SC.

The group's legal clinic has filed a series of "friend-of-the-court" briefs in religious liberty cases before the SC since its founding in 2020.
At the start of his speech, Alito thanked the group for the "warm hospitality" it provided to him and his wife, which, he later said, included a stay at a hotel that "looks out over the Roman Forum."
Alito, in his usual illogical argument, claimed that the initiative’s clinic was the one filing amicus briefs, not the initiative itself, which is already a faulty “originalism” argument. The fact is, the clinic is part of the initiative, as every freshman law student knows.
