Globally, AWS has announced plans for 24 additional Availability Zones and eight additional AWS Regions in Australia, India, Indonesia, Israel, Spain, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, and the new AWS Region in New Zealand.
The new AWS Asia Pacific Region (Auckland) will see even more developers, startups, and companies as well as the government, Enable the education sector and nonprofits to run their applications in data centers in New Zealand and serve end-users from data centers in New Zealand. This ensures that customers who wish to keep their data in New Zealand can do so.
AWS has also released an Economic Impact Study (EIS) that is estimated from the investment of NZ $ 7.5 billion (US$ 5.3 billion) in the new AWS Asia Pacific (Auckland) region 1,000 new jobs will be created and the economic impact on New Zealand's GDP is estimated to be NZ $ 10.8 billion (US$ 7.7 billion) over the next 15 years.

“AWS supports thousands of companies and organizations across New Zealand in their efforts to innovate, be successful, and grow globally. AWS cloud technology provides governments with new ways to further interact with their citizens, supports businesses in their next phase of growth, and helps entrepreneurs build businesses and compete globally, ”said Prasad Kalyanaraman, vice president of infrastructure services, AWS.
“Our investments reflect AWS’s serious, long-term commitment to New Zealand. We are very excited to be building new world-class infrastructure locally, training New Zealanders in sought-after digital skills, and further helping local businesses to deploy applications, AWS Regions are made up of Availability Zones in which the infrastructure is placed in separate and distinct geographic locations, far enough away to support customer business continuity, but close enough to provide low latency for highly available applications that use multiple Availability Zones.
Each availability zone has independent power, cooling, and physical security. The zones are connected to one another via redundant networks with ultra-low latency. AWS customers, for whom high availability is a top priority, can develop their applications to operate them in different availability zones and thus achieve even greater resilience.
Customers of all sizes - from startups to corporations to government organizations and nonprofits - will be able to use cutting-edge technologies from the world's leading cloud to drive innovation. AWS offers the most comprehensive and detailed portfolio of services including, analytics, computing power, Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, mobile services, storage, and more.
Customers in New Zealand are already benefiting from Amazon's continued investment in the global backbone through the Hawaiki submarine cable - a 9,300 mile (15,000 kilometers) long transpacific cable system that has been in operation since 2018 and connects from Australia to New Zealand and the United States provides low latency and high bandwidth.
According to the newly released EIS, AWS plans to invest NZ $ 7.5 billion (US$ 5.3 billion) over the next 15 years through the new AWS Asia Pacific Region (Auckland) in New Zealand.
This includes capital expenditures for building data centers, operating expenses such as ongoing utilities and setup costs, and purchasing goods and services from local businesses. EIS estimates that investing in building and operating AWS infrastructure in New Zealand is expected to increase the country's GDP by approximately NZ $ 10.8 billion (US$ 7.7 billion) over the next 15 years.
The EIS also states that the new AWS Region will deliver direct and indirect economic benefits such as job creation and revenue to the data center supply chain and related sectors. In total, an estimated 1,000 new full-time jobs will be created in New Zealand as a result of this investment.
