Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced that production of its key processor chips will soon begin at TSMC’s new Arizona plant, marking the first time its products will be manufactured on U.S. soil, Wen-Yee Lee reported for Reuters.

Although AMD’s move predates President Donald Trump’s return to office, efforts by tech companies to diversify supply chains have gained urgency amid the administration’s intensifying tariff battle.
The White House is currently investigating whether semiconductor imports threaten national security, which could pave the way for new tariffs on the industry.
“Our new fifth-generation EPYC is doing very well, so we’re ready to start production,” AMD CEO Lisa Su told reporters in Taipei, referring to the company’s high-performance CPU line for data centers.
Until now, AMD’s chips have been exclusively produced at TSMC’s facilities in Taiwan.
The shift to the Arizona fab aligns with similar announcements from Apple and Nvidia, which also plan to manufacture select chips at the same site. Su also confirmed AMD’s recent acquisition of ZT Systems, a leading U.S. supplier of AI servers, which further expands AMD’s domestic presence.
