American Airlines is temporarily suspending six routes as higher jet fuel costs continue to pressure airline operations.

The carrier said schedule adjustments affecting August and September travel are intended to manage rising operating expenses and are not permanent cancellations.
According to company statements, the affected routes include:
Los Angeles – Cleveland
Los Angeles – Columbus
Los Angeles – Pittsburgh
Los Angeles – Washington Dulles
Charlotte – Ontario
Charlotte – Sacramento
American Airlines said affected customers will be offered rebooking options or refunds.
Jet fuel typically represents 25% to 30% of airline operating costs, making carriers highly sensitive to oil price increases. Airlines globally have increasingly adjusted schedules, raised fees, or imposed fuel-related surcharges amid elevated energy costs.
Other international airlines have also announced operational adjustments in response to higher fuel expenses.
