Rising anti-American sentiment in Europe, exacerbated by President Donald Trump’s policies, is beginning to influence consumer behavior—particularly attitudes toward American goods, Maggie Shiltagh reported for Bloomberg News.

Trump’s threats to impose punitive tariffs on Europe, seize territories, and withdraw military support—especially regarding the war in Ukraine—have angered European consumers, sparking calls to boycott U.S. products.

A YouGov poll published on March 4 found that no European country currently has a majority of its population with a positive view of the U.S.

Opinion has soured the most in Denmark, where Trump’s proposed takeover of Greenland provoked widespread outrage. Facebook groups advocating for a boycott of American products have gained traction, amassing thousands of followers.

One Danish group, Boykot varer fra USA ("Boycott Products from the USA"), has grown to more than 92,000 members since its creation on February 3.

"I became increasingly frustrated with his attitude of dictating what is right and wrong," said Bo Albertus, an administrator of the group. "I felt the best way to protest was to stop putting money in their pockets."

A survey by Danish broadcaster TV 2 found that nearly half of Danes have deliberately avoided purchasing American products since Trump’s inauguration. In Sweden, a similar group, Bojkotta varor från USA ("Boycott Products from the USA"), has also grown rapidly.
